Through My Lens: A Forever Kind of Love with Ben & Kalie

There is a specific kind of magic that happens when my camera meets a love story I’ve watched grow for years. If you’ve been following The Darling Diaries, you know I live for the "meet-cute" and the "I do," but there is something so much deeper about the "still going strong."

Ben and Kalie are some of my favorite people on the planet. They aren't just a couple I’ve had the honor of photographing—they are dear friends who have been in my life through so many chapters. Getting them in front of my lens for this fall portrait session felt less like a "job" and more like a celebration of a love that has become a beautiful constant.

Capturing the Connection

We spent our evening chasing the honey-soaked light in a field that felt miles away from the rest of the world. As a photographer, I’m always looking for those split seconds where people forget I’m there. With Ben and Kalie, it was so easy.

I’ve seen them grow up together, and that history shows up in every frame. It’s in the way Kalie effortlessly tucks herself under Ben’s arm, and the way he smiles down at her—that specific, "only-for-her" kind of look. Kalie’s burgundy dress was the perfect pop of warmth against the golden autumn grass, and seeing them twirl and laugh reminded me exactly why I fell in love with this craft in the first place.

The Forehead Nuzzles: Being significantly taller, Ben has this way of leaning down to kiss Kalie’s forehead that feels like a literal shield of love.

The Unfiltered Laughter: There is nothing quite like Kalie’s laugh. It’s infectious, and Ben knows exactly how to trigger it.

The "Right Where We Belong" Moments: When they sat together in the tall grass, hands intertwined, the world just felt still.

More Than Just a Milestone

People often ask me when the "right time" for a photoshoot is. My answer is always: now. You don't need a ring or a specific announcement to document your life. There is so much beauty in the seasons of a relationship where you’ve simply chosen each other, day after day, for years.
